Role of the intestinal microbiota in pediatric Crohn's disease

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), affects children as young as one year of age, but the specific pathobiology of IBD remains unclear. Addressing this knowledge gap in children could facilitate the development of early diagnostic strategies and targeted treatment plans, and possibly even prevention of this disease. The goal of our work is to achieve a rapid and significant advance in our knowledge of CD-associated microbiome in children, through application of metagenomic approaches.
