Olga K. Kamneva

I’m a PhD student in the Ward Lab. I came to the University of Wyoming in September 2007 through MCLS PhD program and I joined the lab in June 2008. My primary research interest is microbial evolutionary genomics. I am particularly interested in the investigation of patterns of major evolutionary processes (gene duplication and loss, lateral gene transfer, substitution and indel mutations) and how those processes facilitate the evolution of new functions in microbial genomes. In my PhD project I approach this problem by comparative genomic analysis using whole-genome data sets. I’m aiming to understand the forces driving the evolution of the organisms of PVC super-phylum in general and development of unique for these bacteria morphological and physiological features in particular.
